Still in pincushion mode, I whipped up this one using some scraps off cotton yarn left over from my knitted dishcloths. Kind of pretty, I reckon. The other Mum's at the roller-skating birthday party did look at me a little strangely whilst I sat and crocheted, but I don't care :)

Here's my latest wooly creation - handknitted slippers to keep my toes all warm and cosy as the weather starts to chill a little. I used pure wool yarn left over from the granny-rug I made last winter. I remember my grandmother making us things like this - at the time I thought they were terribly daggy. Now I love them! And now I know how much time and love went into Mama's handcrafted gifts - I wish she was still around so that I could thank her.

The boys and I went to Spotlight today to pick up a few things. (Looking for activities to keep them busy in the school holidays!) Among our purchases were some "French knitting bees", pom pom makers and brightly coloured yarn. The boys have been having a ball making heaps of pom poms in various colours and sizes.

Another great weekend for our basketball-loving boys. Jayden's team won their Grand Final match by just ONE POINT! What an exciting game!

It was the last game together for his team (after 3 seasons) as they are being split up into a few different teams next season. What a fantastic way to finish for this great group of mates.

Cheap and cheerful! When there's nothing in the fridge or pantry or when we're just looking for a quick, simple meal of comfort food, we love "shell noodles" with butter and grated cheese (and some of us love peas, corn and diced carrot mixed in too).

I remember having "noodles for tea" sometimes when I was a little girl. Yummy, warm, buttery and delicious. Great stuff!

Corey's class made cheese and herb scones at school on Thursday and he was so excited to share the recipe with me. We made up a batch this afternoon using oregano, parsley, rosemary, chives and basil from our garden. They were delicious! Mmmmmm

Today's photograph is courtesy of my husband, who was alert and awake enough at 7am to be able to appreciate the beauty of sunrise on the farmlands near our home. The mist was sitting in the valleys and the golden morning light on the trees was a beautiful sight. So glad Dan pointed it out to me, or I might have missed it while staring bleary eyed into my morning coffee!

Jayden had a great day at his school athletics carnival today. He competed well in 8 events......he even won his hurdles event! Here he is running the 200 metres in which he was just beaten by his friend Jack. I was really proud of the effort he put in. Well done Jay.

More swimming as our summer draws to a close (officially at the end of Feb, but usually not till late March!) Today after school we went to check out the Lilydale outdoor pool for the very first time. It's pretty old and basic, but more than adequate. The boys had a lovely time splashing and swimming and cooling off. They both enjoyed a "Slurpy" before we headed home for dinner. What a nice way to kick off the weekend.

Oh, the things you see from your front verandah when you're up nice and early. Hot air balloons are a favourite sight of mine. We often see them out here, floating over the Yarra Valley. I love living here:) This one is hovering near Christmas Hill. Magic! Wish I was up there too......

Today I am drinking my very first glass of milk in years and years - I was treated for milk by my NAET practitioner yesterday. I'm very hopeful that there is no reaction to the milk. To be free from this allergy would be a HUGE thing for me. Fingers crossed.....

Roses fresh from our garden made a beautiful centrepiece for the lunch I hosted at home today. My guests were three retired nurses with whom I used to work at Mitcham Hospital. It is so nice to have our get togethers in each others homes rather than at some cafe or restaurant. I enjoyed revisiting the art of hospitality.

Today was a pretty exciting day at basketball for Corey. His Saints team was playing against the team of his school buddies, twins Brodie and Corey (and their cousin Jack). They are also a Saints team so this time our team wore their tops inside-out and they were the "blue" Saints. I'm not even sure which team won the match (it was pretty low scoring! lol!) , but they all had a great time.

Molly is always super excited when "Daddy" arrives home from work. She runs and jumps around like a crazy puppy. She loves to have a tickle on the belly from him. I think Daddy is pretty glad to see Molly too; especially when it's Friday afternoon and he has a weekend with the family to look forward to.

Jayden doing his first lot of homework for Grade 3. He had to write about "Why 302 (his class) is lucky to have me". He came up with 6 reasons. I can think of 1006 reasons why they are lucky to have him! But maybe I'm just a little biased. He is one very special kid :)

Yesterday we went to an "open for inspection" at a little farmlet at Hoddles Creek. The place was lovely - 5 acres, lots of olive and fruit trees, and yes, some chooks. Never imagined myself wanting to keep chooks, but I'm starting to come around. While the property we looked at wasn't exactly what we were after, going to the OFI has made me excited about the possibility of one day having a few acres of our own and being a lot more self sufficient. There is no rush to find it but we'll be keeping ours open. Hopefully the right property will come up some day.

Today's post is not a photo, but the cover of a book which I have put on hold at the local library today. This is a new possible treatment for my fibromyalgia and allergies. I'll let you know what I think about it after I've read the book. Any hope of improved health is a wonderful thing.

Granmama has planted a tree with each of her four grandsons. This time it was time for Corey's tree. It is an olive tree, which is very appropriate because he loves olives so much. They had some help with the planting from Cooper and Jack. We look forward to watching Corey's olive tree grow.

Jayden waiting for his swimming lesson to begin. The boys have done "Fast-track" swimming every day this week. Jayden is wearing the cap because he has grommets in his ears (his second time around). Hopefully they'll be out soon and he can go cap-less. I do think he looks super cute with the cap on though :)

Our 9th wedding anniversary (and 10 years since the day we met). This year we chose to celebrate with the boys - fish'n'chips for tea at the lake. The boys had a play on the playground and a kick of the football, while Dan and I had a cuddle at the picnic table. Love this guy so much. So very glad we tied the knot :) Happy Anniversary babe. xxx

A fun school holiday activity - playing Uno. We played 8 games and miraculously we each won 2! {wink}. The kids love it when we sit down and play games with them. Also played today were Battleship, Twister and several word games played together on the Nintendo DS. These are the days we will remember.

A while ago I picked up this book at the local op-shop for the princely sum of 50 cents. I can't resist a craft book, especially at that price. Yesterday I made my first item from it; a "lavender bottle". (Thats it sitting in front of the book). This is simply made using lavender from my garden and ribbon. You bend the stems back to form a "bottle" around the flower heads and weave the ribbon around the stems. You can pop them into a drawer or cupboard to keep your clothes or linen smelling divine. Simple, sweet and delightful.

The garden as it looked this morning. We put up the shadecloth screen in front of the tomatoes in an attempt to protect them from "sunburn". As I type this it is 42 degrees celcius. Too, tooo hot for any sort of outdoor activity. Hopefully the garden will survive without too much damage. I'm off to have an icy-pole. Stay cool people!

No luxury inground pool at our place! Our boys are content to cool off on a 36 degree day, in their little, old wading pool. You can have a surprising amount of fun splashing around in 25cm of water! Corey was even practising his freestyle stroke at one stage - funny kid that one :)

Enjoyed a lovely long bath tonight, with lavender and rosemary bath salts, made by Jayden at school last term. I love to read in the bath and tonight it was this book "Backyard Self-Sufficiency" by Jackie French. Lots of fantastics tips in this one.........but don't tell the local librarian that I was reading it in the bath!

I love these lazy summer days at home, just hanging out together and enjoying each others company. Nowhere else we have to be; nothing else we have to do.......bliss. Jayden received the game "Battleship" for his birthday and there have already been about a dozen battles played...and they are keeping score! You've gotta love a bit of friendly competition :)

These incredible peaches were a gift from the garden of our neighbour (two doors down), John. Every year we are the lucky recipients of some of the fruit from his trees. Today he brought us these peaches and a bag of apricots. We are very grateful for his kindness and generosity. I can assure you, these taste even better than they look.
